Design of Circularly Polarized 1-Bit Reconfigurable ME-Dipole Reflectarray for C-band

This paper proposes a novel electronically reconfigurable reflectarray antenna (RRA) having circular polarization (CP) for C-band communications (4.4 - 5 GHz). The RRA is designed using a magnetoelectric (ME) dipole element combined with four PIN diode elements. This configuration enables flexible control over the phase of the CP reflected wave from each pixel, ensuring precise manipulation of the main reflected beam direction. A 10×10 reflectarray prototype was validated through numerical analysis, showcasing its capability for two-dimensional (2-D) beam scanning. Notably, the proposed RRA structure achieves wide beam-scanning angles up to ±60

with a scanning loss of 4 dB and a 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 9.28% (4.52 - 4.96 GHz). Hence, the proposed RRA structure is an effective method for enhancing wireless communication signals on mobile terminals.
