Decentralized Multilevel Inverters based on CPWM for Five-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

This paper presents a new structure and implementation method of a multilevel decentralized control power converter for a 5-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (5PMSM). Decentralized carrier level shift modulation technique is used to search for switching pulses for each phase power switches. The proposed structure and control method allows the power converter to operate under normal conditions and any one phase or two phases open circuit of the 5PMSM. The 5PMSM is controlled based on rotor field-oriented control (RFOC) on d-q coordinates to ensure that the motor’s electromagnetic moment ripples with the low amplitude. The feedback of the stator current and motor speed is used to adjust the current on the d-q coordinate to create a modulation voltage for each phase. The speed response, electromagnetic moment, phase voltage, phase current, carrier modulation process are analyzed and evaluated based on the simulation model on the Matlab/Simulink software.
