Simulation Analysis of Prefabricated Deformation on Sealing Performance Enhancement

This study establishes a thermal-mechanical coupling model for marine stern shaft mechanical seals and proposes a micro-nano treatment strategy for static and dynamic rings to reduce deformation and enhance sealing performance. By developing a thermal-mechanical coupling analysis model under operational conditions, we determined the steady-state clearance of the seal. Based on the clearance, a pre-taper treatment was applied to the contact surfaces of the rings, achieving more uniform deformation, lower end face temperatures, and balanced pressure distribution under the same conditions. These optimizations significantly improved sealing efficiency across various operational conditions while maintaining adaptability to sudden changes. This research provides valuable insights for optimizing pre-deformation strategies to enhance sealing performance in similar applications.
