A New Rotor Structure of Permanent Magnet Flat Wire Motors

A permanent magnet (PM) flat wire motor holds great potential for advancement in the electric vehicle industry due to its elevated power density and efficiency. The reluctance of a mainstream double "V" type rotor of the PM flat wire motor is large, which leads to low utilization of permanent magnets and high cost of the motor. This article proposes a new rotor structure that can enhance the torque density of the motor and optimize the utilization of PM. Firstly, the magnetic circuit characteristics of new rotor and double "V" type rotor are compared, and the principle of performance superiority of the new rotor is expounded. Secondly, the simulation model for the electromagnetic field of the flat wire motor has been established, and the impact of new rotor on the motor's performance is being compared and analyzed. The findings indicate that the new rotor offers advantages in increasing torque density and reducing the cost of the motor.
