Structural Design and Analysis of a Novel Dual-Drug Delivery Capsule Robot

In the management of digestive system and gastrointestinal tract diseases, oral administration is frequently utilized, depending on the interaction between the drug's coating and the digestive tract's chemical properties for targeted delivery. Nonetheless, the intricacy of the human digestive system and the variability in digestive states among individuals, or even within the same individual at different times, can adversely affect drug efficacy. To overcome these challenges, this study introduces a novel dual-drug delivery capsule robot featuring an internal cam mechanism and dual medication chambers, capable of precise drug release in specific gastrointestinal locations, followed by natural expulsion. This advanced delivery method reduces bodily irritation and enhances drug effectiveness. The capsule robot's design facilitates the transport and release of either identical or two distinct drugs at one or multiple targeted sites, significantly improving the versatility and efficiency of drug delivery within the gastrointestinal tract.
