Design Details of Binary Boolean Operators Using Basic PIM Cells: Proposing and Analyzing Basic‐Extended Hypothesis

Summary

This chapter discusses the design of logic gates using binary quantum dot cellular automata (QCA)‐based processing in memory (PIM) cells. The basic‐extended hypothesis is introduced, stating that if basic PIM cells can be used to design extended circuits with better performance, then these cells are suitable and practical. This chapter focuses on designing AND, OR, and NAND gates using the proposed PIM cells. For the AND gates, two models (BAND1 and BAND2) are presented, with BAND2 being more optimal in terms of cost functions, cell count, and occupied area. The OR gates (BOR1 and BOR2) also show similar characteristics, with BOR2 being more optimal in complexity and delay. The NAND gates (BNAND1 and BNAND2) demonstrate comparable performance, with BNAND2 having slightly better complexity and occupied area. In conclusion, the basic‐extended hypothesis is confirmed as the extended circuits designed using the more optimal PIM cells show better performance. This chapter provides insights into the design and evaluation of logic gates using binary QCA‐based PIM cells. The fault effect has been investigated in different proposed structures.
