Bacterial Colony Counter using Different Image Processing Algorithms

This study used various pre-processing algorithms to count the number of bacterial colonies from the dataset. The researchers used three methods on counting the colonies, these methods being, Kis [2] Implementation of Circular Hough Transform, Circular Hough Transform with alternative methods, and Blob Detection with Alternative Methods, each method has its own strengths and weaknesses. The experiments show that the proposed Blob Detection method with alternative preprocessing performed best based on the highest precision, slightly lower recall, and the highest F-score metrics of 90.25%, 67.56%, and 76.94%, respectively.
