Improving Stimulation Tolerance for Implantable Neurostimulators Through Enhanced Capacitive Conduction

There is considerable interest in optimizing the application of electric fields (EF) in clinical settings for therapeutic purposes, such as directing nerve regeneration or eliciting membrane responses in target cells. Any approach that can enhance the rate of charge delivery per phase, while adhering to safety and tolerance limits, has the potential to amplify the effectiveness of regenerative EF stimulation systems. To explore this, we modeled and simulated an external circuit to investigate how a neurostimulator can be fine-tuned for maximum current injection by targeting the high-frequency component of a rectangular stimulation pulse.
