Design and Implementation of a Low Cost and High Efficiency GPR&EMI Control Module for Hand-Held Systems

Due to the compact design of dual sensor handheld systems, it should be taken into account criteria being limited place, the necessity of low power consumption and low cost for system design. However, the control boards of these systems contain a complex architecture to achieve precision timing, signal processing and visualizations. Generally, it has been used FPGA and embedded computer to design these complex architectures. In this paper, a low cost and high efficiency embedded control and signal processor architecture design for hand-held GPR and EMI sensors is described using ARM-based microcontrollers only. The proposed architecture of a hand-held detector can achieve high processing capability, LCD drive and visualization of 2D GPR screen. In addition, the module can detect buried objects such as elongated cable, metallic and non-metallic targets with high accuracy.
