An Active Switching for Downtime Mitigation System (ASDMS) for KU-Band Satellite Service (An IoT Implementation)

This paper describes the design of an Active Switching for Downtime Mitigation System (ASDMS) for Ku band which has been deployed at Si Racha and Nonthaburi, satellite earth stations located in Chonburi and Nonthaburi provinces, Thailand. The system consists of KU-Band satellite transmitters (on both stations) with SNMP protocol enabled, a host computer running Node-Red software and a Private Link Circuit (PLC) connection linking between two stations. With both transmitters linking via PLC using a custom Node-Red flow. The system is able to detect a transmitting signal degradation due to rain, other precipitation and clouds attenuation and automatically switch an uplink station from the main to backup stations at a distance of over a hundred kilometers away in real-time. Since the deployment of the ASDMS, a significant reduction of service downtime on both stations and higher customer satisfaction are achieved.
