A Review of Wind Energy and its Potential in Nigeria

In the modern world, wind energy is becoming the most affordable and common means of generating electricity. Wind energy is a renewable resource that is widely employed due to its favorable market acceptance, low cost and ease of handling and maintenance, relatively quick realization time from concept to execution, least harmful influence on the environment, and ability to create new jobs. In order to enhance power production in Nigeria, wind energy systems were examined in this review as a cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable energy source. Background on wind energy, wind power fundamentals, wind turbine types, Nigeria's wind energy potential, and wind energy regulations were considered. Nigeria has locations that are suitable for offshore wind projects, especially in the northern, coastal, and hilly middle-belt regions of the nation. Both the public and private sectors should provide funding for research and development in order to work on improving wind turbines and creating better components. The development and use of wind energy must be given a top priority by both the public and private sectors. As a result, living standards will rise and the energy supply will be sufficient to fulfill the increasing demand in socio-economic activities.
