Simulation of Residual Stress and Deformation in Quenched C39 Steel under Controlled Immersion Speed

High-performance steels, which are recognized for their remarkable strength and wear resistance, undergo a crucial step in their manufacturing process called quenching. However, the development of residual stress and deformation as a result of different cooling rates present a common challenge in this process that must be carefully considered and managed. The residual stress and deformation in quenched C39 under varying immersion speeds are simulated in this study using Ansys fluent 2021R1 while material data are calculated using JMatPro material simulation software. The investigation was carried out by looking at the effects on quenched C39 samples of five different immersion speeds (0.05, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 m/s). The simulation results demonstrated that residual stress and deformation magnitudes decreased with increasing immersion speed. Additionally, the simulations demonstrated that the maximum speed (0.8 m/s) had the least amount of residual stress and deformation. Parts with enhanced surface finishes and mechanical and physical qualities can be produced by comprehending how varying immersion speeds affect quenched C39.
