Reinforcing effect of waste plastic bottle strips on lime-admixed clayey soil

The brittle nature of soil stabilised with lime is quite unfavorable; hence, it is now essential to add discrete fiber reinforcement to lime-treated soil to improve its tensile performance. This study, therefore, examined the reinforcing effects of waste plastic bottle strips (WPBS) on the performance of lime-admixed clayey soil. Whilst the lime content was kept constant at 5%, the WPBS was varied at 0-3% by weight of the soil. The clayey-lime-WPBS mixture was subjected to a particle size distribution test, Atterberg limits test, compaction test and Unconfined Compression Strength Test (UCS). The results showed that WPBS greatly influences the liquid limit, plastic limit, plasticity, maximum dry density and Compressive strength of lime-admixed clayey soil. The results of the ANOVA revealed that WPBS greatly influence the lime-admixed clayey soil properties.
