A Smart and Automated Waste Management System

This paper aims to promote cleanliness and sustainability of our environment, by developing a smarter and more effective waste management system. A prototype of a smart waste management system was created to address improper waste management in our environment. The system combines ultrasonic sensors for human detection and full level measurement detection, a servo motor for automated lid control (open and close), an Arduino Uno microcontroller for central control, an LCD for real-time feedback, and a SIM800L module for wireless communication. The smart waste management system uses these technologies to assess bin fill levels and detect nearby individuals. This information optimizes garbage collection schedules and prevents overflow situations. The system's automation facilitates enhance easy garbage disposal while ensuring cleanliness. Real-time bin (refuse) fill level data is displayed on an LCD panel, and SMS alerts are sent via the SIM800L module at predefined fill levels. The benefits of this smart waste management system include improved garbage collection scheduling and enhance good hygienic condition. The system supports sustainable waste management practices, reduces manual involvement, and boosts operational efficiency through cutting-edge technology and automation. Future improvements include enhancing sensor capabilities, incorporating data collection/logging for waste management agencies, and involving stakeholders in large-scale deployment
