Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education and the Influence of Industry 4.0

This study explores the profound impact of Industry 4.0 on STEM education, focusing on preparing higher education students for success in the expanding global information economy. The research addresses the following questions: "How can higher education institutions equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an evolving global economy? What specific skills should students acquire before graduation, and how can they be effectively equipped with these capabilities?" A comprehensive literature review on Industry 4.0 in STEM education and the concept of Education 4.0 has been conducted, from 2014 to the present, utilizing various reputable research databases. The primary focus is on identifying the skills that engineers should learn to effectively address the challenges of the next generation, aligning with the principles of Industry 4.0 and sustainable development goals (SDGs). The article also discusses the potential adaptation of cognitive models in the professional training of future engineers to meet the demands and opportunities presented by new and emerging industries. Furthermore, it advocates for ongoing research into using intelligent educational infrastructure to facilitate learning analytics and enhance engineering education, especially in emerging economies.
