Predictors of Computer Knowledge Among Healthcare Professionals in Benue South, Nigeria

It has been established in literature that the low success rate of eHealth systems is strongly associated with poor knowledge of computer. The level of computer proficiency and utilization among healthcare workers in Benue South is not well established in literature. Therefore, this study aimed to assess computer knowledge and identify the factors that are associated with computer knowledge in Benue South. An institution-based quantitative cross-sectional study design was conducted in 120 health facilities across Benue South. A total of 430 healthcare professionals participated in this study. Descriptive and logistic regression techniques using Python programming were applied to determine the level of knowledge and the factors associated with knowledge of computers by healthcare workers. The result of the computer knowledge assessment revealed that 54.19% of the healthcare professionals passed the test. The adjusted odds ratio indicates that health workers with computer training have 3.34 times higher odds of passing the computer knowledge test, while those with regular computer access have 2.83 times higher odds of passing, compared to those without access. Furthermore, it was revealed that access to computers and having undergone computer training are the two significant predictors of computer knowledge among healthcare professionals in Benue South.
