Sensorless Control Strategy of Switched Reluctance Motor Based on Inductance Decrease Region

Conventional sensorless control methods for switched reluctance motors (SRMs) often do not take into account the impact of electromagnetic saturation. This can lead to errors in rotor estimation, particularly under heavy load conditions. An inductance decrease region-based sensorless control method for SRM is proposed in this research to address this issue. The initial location of the rotor at rest is determined by the inductance comparison method, which also yields the initial torque. Next, a mathematical model for the inductance and angle of SRM is derived using the Fourier series. Finally, the inductance decrease region method is proposed to avoid the effect of electromagnetic saturation. The rotor angle is determined by applying the inverse trigonometric function, which then allows for the computation of the motor's speed. The simulation results demonstrate that the method can precisely and seamlessly estimate the position and speed of the rotor, thereby greatly enhancing the performance of sensorless control.
