Development of a GenAI-Powered Hypertension Management Assistant: Early Development Phases and Architectural Design

This study describes the implementation of a Generative AI (GenAI) assisted Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) system for hypertension management. Using user-centered design and agile development methodology, we created a minimal viable product (MVP) of the GenAI-RPM system, which includes key functionalities: 1) a GenAI-powered SMS platform for patient interaction, responding to reported RPM values, and engaging in follow-up conversations, 2) integrated GenAI-powered content into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) for provider-facing smart summaries and portal message drafts. This integration aims to enhance both patient-facing tasks (like managing responses to RPM values and patient engagement) and provider-facing tasks (including automated content generation for clinical communication). The MVP's success paves the way for expanding patient-facing functionalities and further refining provider-facing features, indicating promising directions for future development and research in digital healthcare for hypertension management.
