Development of a Virtual Reality Cognitive Stimulation Game for Elderly Patients with Cognitive Impairment

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) refers to the initial phase that occurs between the typical cognitive decline that comes with getting older and the dementia. Symptoms may encompass difficulties with memory, language, cognition, and decision-making that surpass what is typically expected for one's age, yet do not significantly impede daily functioning. This paper outlines the conceptual design aimed at mitigating the progression from MCI to Dementia in individuals. The proposed approach utilises virtual reality engineering, employing tools such as Meta Quest 2, Unity software, and Blender software. The game requires players to memorise the locations and colours of furniture in a room. It features a multiplayer system for two players, one as the Mover and the other as the Helper.
