Development of Drifting Data Logger with LPWA Communication for Water Quality Survey

In recent years, lacks of dissolved oxygen in various water areas around the world has become a serious problem. These phenomena have significant impacts on aquatic ecosystems. In order to conserve several living things, it is necessary to conduct long-term observations in various water areas to determine factors related to changes in dissolved oxygen. Therefore, this paper proposes a drifting data logger capable of simultaneously measuring dissolved oxygen, water temperature, position information, and so on. By releasing the developed data logger into water currents, it can measure various data over a wide area. This paper develops a drifting data logger with LPWA. Performance of developed logger is improved by externally attaching GPS antennas and ELTRES standard. Developed drifting data logger conducts field study in the Lake Biwa. The operational time is 30 hours, with a 100% success rate in uploading data to the cloud and obtaining position information.
