Fuzzy Logic Based Field Oriented Control of PMSM for Electric Vehicle

This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the application of fuzzy logic-based field-oriented control (FOC) implemented for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) used in electric vehicles (EVs), FOC is a widely used control technique for PMSM drives as it provides precise control over torque and flux. However, traditional FOC methods may face practical challenges in tuning the PI controller and suffer from large overshoot and settling times. This study explores how fuzzy logic-based FOC addresses these challenges and offers advantages in dynamic response, efficiency, and robustness. A comparative analysis is carried out and the paper shows that fuzzy logic-based FOC is better at adapting to different operating conditions and controlling them precisely compared to traditional FOC and FOC with hysteresis control methods.
