Three-Phase Power Distribution from Electric Vehicles: Enabling Rural Electrification and Sustainable Mobility

This study introduces a transformative approach to utilizing electric vehicles (EVs) as dynamic power transport solutions for underprivileged households, with a focus on three-phase power systems. The innovation lies in a versatile converter system that enables the charging of light electric vehicles (LEVs) from both AC and DC power supplies while simultaneously powering rural household appliances directly from the LEV battery. The converter incorporates an active bridge-based single-stage three-phase AC/DC converter with an auxiliary DC port, reducing the high-frequency switch count needed for efficient power conversion. This system operates in three distinct modes: charging the LEV battery from a three-phase AC grid, charging from another EV or battery, and directly powering household appliances. Through rigorous MATLAB/Simulink simulations and simulation validations on a lab-scale prototype, the converter's design not only meets but exceeds operational expectations, maintaining unity power factor and adhering to IEC61000-3-2 standards for total harmonic distortion, thereby highlighting its potential to significantly impact rural electrification and sustainable mobility.
