Reactive Power Compensation in Multi-microgrid Environment

Development of electronics and IC technology has created a revolution. Lot of devices are integrated with electronic parts. This resulted in increase of sensitive and sophisticated devices at consumer ends. The usage of renewable energy sources are rapidly increasing because of their several advantages over non-renewable energy sources. Consumers are installing renewable energy sources at their homes. These are called as microgrids. Microgrids can also cause power quality problems. If proper power quality improvement measures are not followed chances are more for their damage. So, a need has a raised for power quality improvement. The power quality issues are like voltage sag, voltage swell, voltage distortions, flickers, harmonics and so on. The use of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices has enabled the mitigation of power quality difficulties. This paper proposes of using Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) for increasing the voltage quality as it can cause malfunctioning of the de-vices at consumer end. A multi-microgrid is developed using MATLAB and test-ed with and without DVR for LLLG, LLG and LG fault conditions by connecting a non-linear load and results are presented in this paper.
