Analysis of Skin Conductance Sensing Technique for Ulcerated Wound Healing Assessment

This paper presents a system for assessing the ulcerated wound healing progress of the patient who suffers from medical condition such as diabetes mellitus and vascular disease. It helps the healthcare profession to easily diagnose the patient with non-healing ulcerated, chronic as well as acute wound. The proposed system is very economical, safe, non- invasive type and painless to the patients who suffer from non- healing wound. The usual method of monitoring the wound involves, dressing or opens the wound to analysis the healing progress which may not be convenient to the patients due to the psychological trauma. Therefore, the presented work effectively utilizes Galvanic skin response (GSR) sensor to sense the skin conductance value and Arduino UNO WiFi for the real-time data acquisition module to analyze the wound healing assessment. From the experimental results, it is observed that, the electrical properties of a human tissue are nearly same as in the gelatin mixture. The presented work is the initial phase of simple real-time data acquisition model. More experiments have to be conducted for the proper normalization of bioimpedance and skin conductance value of a healthy and wounded skin. Because, the performance of wound healing assessment depends on these factors. Further Thingspeak IOT platform is used to visualize the results in real-time environment.
