Decoupling vibrational and translational temperature for plasma-combustion chemistry system containing rich vibrational states

Plasma and combustion chemistry are tightly coupled with each other in applications related to thermal applications, eg. plasma-assisted ignition/combustion, and plasma-assisted waste treatment. Vibrational states play an important role in the coupling systems and exist widely in typical plasma sources (e.g. gliding arc, and dielectric barrier discharges). The $\alpha$-Fridmann scheme is commonly used as a quick estimation to treat complex reactions including vibrational states, however, this method is difficult to use for all the reactions containing vibrational excited species (too many V-T and V-V reactions). Meanwhile, the vibrational-related reactions are implicitly included in classical combustion chemistry. As a result, the contribution of vibrational states to combustion chemistry system is substantially underestimated in previous plasma-combustion coupling researches. In this work, we decouple the vibrational and translational temperature in a plasma-combustion chemistry system, consider only the V-T and V-V reactions, and introduce the total temperature for the combustion chemistry instead of the traditionally used translational temperature. A good agreement is achieved with experiments and benchmark results.
