An Energy Storage Planning and Configuration Optimization Method Considering the Techno-Economic Trends

In the context of escalating environmental concerns, grid integration of renewable energy emerges as a critical strategy to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development. Renewable power sources, exemplified by wind power, exhibit inherent randomness, intermittency, and volatility, which lead to an unstable power supply and poor power quality. Addressing these challenges, this study advocates the construction of energy storage stations as an essential solution. It introduces a hybrid energy storage system that combines hydrogen, lithium-ion, and sodium-ion storage technologies. This system fully considers their techno-economic attributes and prospective development trends. The paper proposes a planning methodology for the future storage station's installed capacity and energy storage capacity, aimed at minimizing system costs. The results of the case study validate that the proposed planning approach effectively incorporates the anticipated advancements in storage technology. This ensures not only the enhanced integration of renewable energies but also the economic operation and synergistic complementarity of the storage system.
