Research on an Integrated Energy System with HPR1000 Nuclear Power Unit as Base Load

In conventional power systems, challenges persist, including limited synergies and complementarities among diverse resources on the generation side, resulting in suboptimal energy utilization efficiency. Addressing these issues, an integrated energy system featuring nuclear energy as the base load emerges, capable of harnessing multiple renewable sources for power generation while facilitating peak shaving to maximize the utilization of renewable resources. This paper introduces an integrated energy system centered around the HPR1000 nuclear reactor as the base load. The system incorporates 800MW wind turbines, 500MW photovoltaic units, pumped storage, and battery modules in four energy supply modes. It accommodates a diverse array of loads, including electricity, heat, cold, and water. Leveraging this configuration, an integrated energy system has been formulated, enabling the coupling of various renewable energy sources for power generation and peak shifting to fully exploit renewable energy. A simulation model based on the system configuration is developed, and simulation analyses are conducted under user-specific working conditions. Results demonstrate that the nuclear-renewable integrated energy system can simultaneously generate 432.06 t/h of desalinated water, 100 t/h of industrial steam, and 5 t/h of hydrogen, showcasing its versatility in providing flexible summer cooling and winter heating functions. With a power generation capacity of 1,788.56 MW, these outcomes affirm the feasibility of the proposed system in meeting user load demands.
