Simulation of alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production system based on Aspen Plus

Alkaline water electrolysis has low cost and stable operation, and is currently the most mature and economical water electrolysis technology for hydrogen production,how to improve the efficiency of gas-liquid separation in the system, reduce the water content of hydrogen and the energy consumption of the system is a key direction that needs to be optimized for alkaline electrolysis.Based on Aspen Plus software, a device model of the gas-liquid separation part of an alkaline water electrolysis system with a gas production of 50 Nm

/h was established, and the working conditions of inlet and outlet gas were specified, and the effects of different separation temperatures and separation pressures on the final hydrogen outlet, hydrogen moisture content, the proportion of gas separated by the separator and system energy consumption were simulated.The simulation results show that the gas-liquid flowing from the electrolyzer can be directly cooled to 65°C and then separated to achieve a smaller hydrogen water content and system energy consumption. The increase in separation pressure also facilitates gas-liquid separation and reduces system energy consumption.
