Factors influencing the voltage of floating conductors in the DC ion flow field

In DC power transmission projects, when the exterior electric field strength of the line exceeds the corona inception field strength, the ionized space charge will undergo directional migration under the action of the electric field to form a stable ion flow field. When there is a floating conductor in an ion flow field, it is necessary to analyze the factors affecting the voltage of a floating conductor in an ion flow field and propose engineering solutions to reduce the voltage of a floating conductor. This paper predicts the induced voltage on the out-of-service line in a single circuit DC transmission line when one pole is in operation and the other pole is out of service, analyzes the effects of conductor operating voltage, conductor geometric configuration, corona inception field strength, and grounding resistance in the DC ion flow field on the voltage of a floating conductor, and provides methods to reduce the voltage of a floating conductor in an ion flow field.
