Supercapacitor Assisted PV Powered Dynamic Wireless Power Charging System for EV

In electric vehicle(EV), the battery range plays an important parameter of efficiency and performance. The dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) based battery charging generally improves the range of the battery. In general, it becomes difficult to get the power from grid thorough the roadway. In this work, PV battery system is used as a main source in the transmitter side. In DWPT, the coupling coefficient and mutual inductance continuously changes, as a result the output voltage also fluctuates. Due to the fluctuation, the life cycle of battery may be reduced. In this work, a power management algorithm is proposed to optimize the power on the receiver side such that a constant voltage and desired current can be maintained on the battery of receiver side. To obtain that a super-capacitor (SC) is used as an auxiliary source on the receiver side. The SC will store the energy during high coupling between transmitter and receiver coil and discharges during weak coupling. The buck converter with a PI controller on the secondary side is to maintain desired charging current of battery. The simulation study is carried of ANSYS/ SIMPLORER and SIMULINK.
