Modeling and Simulation of the Transient Process of a Current Limiter Device on Xining Substation 330kV Busbar using ATP/EMTP

This paper conducts a detailed electromagnetic transient analysis of the process of suppressing short circuit currents on the Xining substation 330kV busbar using new rapid switching technology. The study begins by establishing a model of the Xining substation based on the Qinghai power grid and simplifying other parts of the grid accordingly. Utilizing the Qinghai power grid model from the Power System Analysis Software Package (PSASP), the grid is divided into internal and external networks. Subsequently, detailed internal network models and equivalent external network models are constructed in EMTP/ATP, enabling precise calculation of the short circuit currents at the Xining substation. Through the development and verification of the model, the paper elaborates on the integration of the current limiter model and its impact during the short circuit limiting process on the Xining substation 330kV busbar, showcasing the key role and effectiveness of the current limiter in the power grid. Finally, by comparing the results with those obtained from PSASP software, the accuracy and practicality of the model are validated, providing theoretical support and a simulation basis for the application of current limiting technology in power systems.
