Research on VRLA Battery Model Based on Nernst Equation

Valve-regulated lead-acid battery is widely used in DC standby power supplies such as substations and railway systems. Nernst equation provides a method to predict the battery potential by changing the concentration or activity of substances, which can be used to investigate the equilibrium law of chemical reaction and reflect the relationship between the internal chemical process and the external characteristics of the battery. This paper proposes a battery model based on the actual parameters of 2.3 V/ 200 Ah VRLA using the optimized Nernst equation. The accuracy of the model was verified by comparing the differences between the model and the battery. The results show that the battery model could reflect battery voltage during the SOC from 0.1 to 0.9 with the errors are less than 1.2%.
