Performance Analysis of Double-Sided LCC Compensation Topology

EV charging is being revolutionized by Wireless Power Transfer (WPT). Compared to conventional wired methods, WPT offers significant advantages like improved safety, effortless operation, and the potential for extended charging ranges for mobile EVs. For the design of WPT, supply (grid) circuits, coupling system (consisting of both compensation & coil assembly) circuits, and EV batteries are very essential. One crucial element in enhancing the WPT system’s performance is the compensation circuit design. To charge EV batteries, this study uses the Inductor-Capacitor-Capacitor (LCC) compensation topology on both sides. Double-sided LCC (DS LCC) has characteristics: independence from coupling coefficient variations and load fluctuations in terms of resonant frequency. This translates to a more robust and adaptable charging system. This paper investigates the performance analysis of a DS LCC compensation network. The design and simulation of this system were conducted using Ansys Twin Builder software. This WPT system delivering 500 W of power at a frequency of 85 kHz using smaller additional inductors gives greater than 90 % efficiency in power transfer from source to load.
