Microcalcification Detection Using Isotropic and Anisotropic Transforms

Breast calcifications are calcium deposits within breast tissue. They appear as white spots or flecks on a mammogram. Breast calcifications are usually noncancerous (benign), certain patterns of calcifications, such as tight clusters with irregular shapes and fine appearance may indicate breast cancer or precancerous changes to breast tissue. Breast Cancer is a disease in which abnormal breast cells grow out of control and form tumor's. It's regarded as one of the most prominent cancers that affect women worldwide. When a woman has no symptoms, mammography is the most efficient way to detect breast cancer early. Prognosis and treatment outcomes for patients are significantly improved by early identification. Early detection of small non-palpable tumors is the aim of mammography. Improving an image's appearance is the primary objective of enhancement in order to make it more appropriate for a given task. This paper proposes a transform based enhancement methods. In this proposed method, the quantitative enhancement parameters like Entropy, Absolute Mean Brightness Error (AMBE), Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) were measured for both Wavelet transform and Directionlet transform.
