Real-Time Multi-Camera Traffic Analysis for V2I based Cooperative Driving Protocol

Autonomous driving technology is not robust yet to ensure a safety on the road. To reduce possible accidents and support a safe driving experience, vehicle to infrastructure(V2I) based cooperative driving is necessary. The infrastructures on the road can provide key information to the autonomous vehicle (AV) that are outside of its perceptive scope. In this paper, our team propose a traffic analysis algorithm for V2I cooperative driving protocol using already installed surveillance cameras on the roadside units (RSUs). The proposed algorithm identifies AVs on the road and generates traffic messages based on the observed road that can aid AV to make safer decisions. The system runs in real-time and is tested on a real road in Incheon, South Korea.
