Exploring the Impact of Semi-Immersive Video Experiences on User Engagement: A Neurological Perspective Using Emotiv EEG Technology

Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a groundbreaking technological innovation that helps assessing the cognitive functions such as attention, memory, and revolutionizing the way we interact with the real world. Various VR platforms have been built to study memory abilities like, HMDs, CAVEs, VRDs etc. The work describes the essential hardware needed to develop VR projects and how it impacts user experience accordingly. In the preceding years, digital videos and VR have been intertwined technologies that are significantly impacting various industries which is highlighted in the literature survey of this paper. BCI (Brain-Computer Interface), a revolutionary technology, creates a communication link between the human brain and a computer system. It holds immense potential in medicine and robotics. This study presents a hands-on experiment conducted using one of the BCI devices - Emotiv Insight headset to study the impact of various parameters on the users such as stress, relaxation, engagement, excitement, and interest. Moreover, this study explores various aspects and use cases of digital video used abundantly in VR.
