Advanced Power Quality in Hybrid PV-Wind Systems with TSK Fuzzy Control

Off-grid setups struggle to keep power flowing steadily, especially at night and when wind speeds vary. To tackle this, a mix of solar panels, wind power using a special generator, and a battery form a new kind of power grid called a Microgrid. Since both solar and wind make DC power, a converter joins them onto one line and manages their output. Then, this combined line connects to regular electric devices through an inverter, making it easy to use with existing power systems. This work proposes a method for microgrid controlling that makes use of Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy control devices to guarantee that users receive quality electricity. The proposed controller maintains stable voltage levels for both AC and DC loads during disturbances, thereby enhancing power quality by minimizing total harmonic distortion and frequency fluctuations. Moreover, it facilitates power balance by regulating the flow between the battery and the system. The system's performance is assessed using MATLAB modeling and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation with OPAL-RT modules.
