Abstract:

Blockchain oracle bridges the gap between the on-chain (e.g., blockchain network) and the off-chain world, enabling decentralized services. However, the security of oracles is crucial to maintaining the legitimacy of requests and data feeding into the on-chain world. Without a robust and secure framework for developing blockchain oracles, the security of oracles and transmitted data can be compromised. Moreover, due to the lack of secure implementation guidelines, developers and practitioners face difficulties in implementing the blockchain oracles securely, leaving them susceptible to potential vulnerabilities. These limitations hinder the adoption of decentralized applications (DApps). In this work, we address these challenges by developing a framework that focuses on enhancing the security of blockchain oracles. We present an implementation of pull-inbound blockchain oracles, showcasing the applicability of the framework and providing practical insights for the secure development of oracles. The findings from this research provide recommendations and guidance to developers and practitioners, aiding them in implementing blockchain oracles securely.
