An Optimized Implementation of the Blowfish Encryption Algorithm

In recent times, there has been a notable prolif-eration in the utilization and acceptance of encryption algorithms. However, the predominant focus within this field has revolved around the optimization and refinement of software-based encryption algorithms. Consequently, this paper introduces a groundbreaking approach to augment the Blowfish encryption algorithm by implementing specialized hardware using VHDL and the Sparten-3 FPGA platform. By employing FPGAs for en-cryption algorithm implementation, higher processing speeds are attainable, along with the ability to execute multiple encryption operations simultaneously. This parallelism significantly enhances encryption speed, rendering it suitable for real-time encryption applications. Furthermore, the configurability of FPGAs facili-tates hardware design modifications and optimizations tailored to specific encryption requirements. As a result, the proposed method not only enhances overall efficiency but also bolsters security measures.
