A Modified Monopole Antenna with Dual Notch Bands and Ultra-Wide Impedance Bandwidth for Wireless Communication Networks

This study presents a new ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna design that includes a dual band-notched capability. The design features a trapezoidal radiation patch equipped with a pair of rotated L-shaped slits, a rectangular feedline with an M-shaped slot, and a trapezoidal base plane. The findings demonstrate that this antenna operates across a broad frequency range from 2.8 to 12 GHz, thereby spanning the full UWB spectrum from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. A significant aspect of this antenna is its dual band-notched function, specifically at 3.8 GHz (ranging from 3.3-4.2 GHz) and 5.5 GHz (extending from 5–6 GHz), designed to effectively reduce interference from WLAN, C-band, and WiMAX signals. The study rigorously assesses the investigated antenna, confirming its capability to deliver satisfactory frequency responses, radiation patterns, as well as efficiency and gain levels as per the intended design. In summary, the suggested microstrip-fed monopole antenna system successfully meets the stringent requirements for band-notched UWB communication, underscoring its potential for seamless integration into modern wireless networks.
