Compact Double Ridged Asymmetric Orthomode Transducer for Low Earth Orbit Satellite Applications

Satellite networks now serve diverse applications globally. LEO satellites are gaining traction in wireless communication for their future network potential. Dual-polarized systems enable polarization diversity, thus Otrho-mode transducers (OMTs) are deployed. In this paper, a novel design of an OMT based on ridged waveguides is introduced. A common quadruple ridge port capable of exciting two degenerate orthogonal modes is properly coupled to two orthogonal standard ridge waveguide ports. The device achieves 13.4% relative bandwidth with less than 0.1 dB insertion loss and more than 22 dB return loss while the isolation level is maintained above 30 dB. A power analysis is performed to assess the device potential in high power satellite systems.
