Investigating the Impact of Mutual Coupling on mmWave UPA with Consideration of Beam Squint

The influence of mutual coupling on millimeter-wave (mmWave) Uniform Planar Arrays (UPAs) is investigated in this paper, with a particular focus on its impact on array gain with beam squint. The reduction in array gain caused by mutual coupling is quantified through calculations and simulations, underlining its significance in the mmWave spectrum. Comparative analysis is provided, contrasting array gain performance before and after mutual coupling considerations. Furthermore, the effect of beam squint with the existence of mutual coupling on array gain degradation is addressed in the study. The findings contribute to the understanding of challenges in high-frequency antenna arrays and offer practical insights for the design and optimization of millimeter-wave communication systems.
