Beam-Steerable Phased Array with Discrete-Fed Slot Resonators for 28 GHz Cellular Communications

To address the evolving demands of future cellular technologies, the development of phased arrays with advanced capabilities such as broad scanning and end-fire radiation across wide bandwidths is imperative. This study delves into a novel design concept featuring slim, wideband resonators tailored specifically for the next generation of 5G communications. The design methodology is characterized by its simplicity and seamless integration into the circuitry of forthcoming mobile devices. It comprises eight hammer-shaped slot resonators, individually fed and arranged in a linear 1x8 configuration. Covering a broad frequency range from 26 to 30 GHz with a -10 dB threshold, the design is meticulously crafted to optimize performance for 28 GHz 5G applications. Beyond its straightforward design process, the phased array incorporates unique characteristics engineered to address the complex requirements anticipated in future wireless networks.
