Evaluating Detection Performance of DVB-T Based Passive Radar in Jamming Situation

The silent operating mode of Passive Coherent Location (PCL) radars. offers several advantages, including low cost and immunity to interception. However, due to the low power of the received signals compared to active radars, PCL radars often exhibit relatively low detection performance. Various radiation sources, such as broadcasting and telecommunication transmitters like digital video broadcasting-terrestrial (DVB-T) signals, have been exploited as illumination sources. One of the major challenges for PCL radars is improving detection performance. Like all radar systems, PCL radars are vulnerable to jamming countermeasures, which aim to disrupt surveillance and target tracking missions. This work focuses on evaluating the probability of detection in the presence of jammers by determining the corresponding probabilities of detection and false alarms in a jamming scenario. This allows for predicting the reliability of PCL missions by generating a local detection map of the region where the radar is installed, highlighting areas of high detection performance.
