Design of Circular Piecewise MIMO Antenna for 5G Applications

The study under consideration demonstrates that optimally designed and executed mobile antenna are necessary to provide the remarkable performance that 5G networks are expected to offer. This work demonstrates the design and implementation of a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna which is important for wireless communications. For increased coverage, efficacy, and capacity Beamforming, polarization diversity, and MIMO capabilities are among the important design components that are emphasized here. The design is simulated using HFSS and consists of 4 elements of antenna that combine to form a piecewise circular-shaped patch. Each element acts as a monopole. The single-element results show a resonance frequency of 2.46 GHz operating at the first range of frequencies for 5G. A return loss of -24 dB, isolation coefficient below -10 dB at resonance frequency and while the whole configuration has 4 dB gain and omnidirectional radiation pattern. The overall bandwidth is about 1.5 GHz, and the radiation efficiency is found to be 91%.
