Evaluation of FY3G Brightness Temperature Using Microwave Radiation Transfer Model

Microwave Radiation Imager for the Rainfall Mission (MWRI-RM) is a conical scanning total power radiometer on board the Fengyun-3G (FY-3G) satellite, consisting 26 channels operating at frequency range from 10.65 GHz to 183 GHz. The Atmospheric Radiative Transfer Simulator (ARTS) model is used to simulated MWRI-RM channel brightness temperatures (tbs) to check the accuracy of MWRI-RM observations. To perform ARTS model, ERA-5 atmospheric reanalysis products are used as background database. This study is limited to ocean clear-sky only and the total number of match-up dataset of ERA-5 and MWRI-RM data are 648,495 and 747,809 for window and sounding channels respectively. The minimum and maximum std are 1.23 K (18.7 V channel) and 4.3 K (89 H channel) for window channels and 0.64 K (53.24 V channel) and 2.1 K (50.3 H channel) for sounding channels, respectively. The results show that the accuracy of MWRI-RM tbs are reliable, and sounding channels perform better than window channels.
