Tightly Coupled Dipole Antenna Array for Reconfigurable Frequency Wireless Power Transfer

This work describes the design of a tightly coupled dipole antenna array for radiative wireless power transfer (WPT) operations within wide bandwidth, as well as numerical power transfer efficiency results achieved by employing two 8 × 8 arrays. High efficiency very close to the continuous aperture limit are achieved at different frequencies within the working bandwidth of the antenna array thanks to the reduced antenna inter-element spacing of such array, which increases the efficiency of the antenna elements. Although such design exhibits higher complexity if compared with a conventional microstrip patch antenna array, the use of tightly coupled dipole array technology is suggested for high efficiency wideband or reconfigurable frequency radiative WPT.
