Development of a Single-mode DFB Heterolaser with Surface-emitted Radiation Output

A surface-emitting mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) laser structure with surface Bragg grating is developed. Suggested grating profile can simultaneously provide distributed feedback and radiation output through the "upper" surface. Grating parameters are optimized with CST Microwave Studio software. It is demonstrated that about a half of radiation power can be directed into two beams with flat phase fronts. This result remains true in a range of grating shape deviations that are typical for the etching processes.
