Parallel Phase-locked Relativistic Magnetrons with All Cavity Axial Extraction

Over the past decades, the enhancement of the output power of RMs is one of the most significant topics. However, for a single source, its peak-power handling capability is severely limited by internal microwave breakdown. To obtain ultra-high radiated power, it has become a trend for the coherent summation of several moderate-power sources. In this paper, we present an azimuth-uniform coupling structure for parallel phase locking of multiple relativistic magnetrons. According to the PIC simulation results, phase locking of five RMs can be achieved efficiently with phase jitter of ±1%, and a total rf power of 8.5 GW can be generated. In addition, this device has the potential to further expand the number of RM array elements. Therefore, it will be a promising device applied for compact HPM coherent synthesis systems.
