A Ray Model of Radio Wave Propagation in Tropospheric Waveguides

In this study, the theory of geometric optics of inhomogeneous media is studied. In this article, we will consider the dependence on the height of the refractive index of waveguides according to the following models: Paulus-Jeshke, Fock and PPV (near-surface waveguide). A search will also be made for the optimal antenna location in different waveguides according to the criterion of the maximum width of the "Radiation pattern" captured by the waveguide. The analysis is performed by comparing the width of the "Directional Pattern" at different heights. As an analysis and evaluation of the operability of antenna devices, special application software packages were used to simulate radiation propagation in the waveguide under study with high accuracy. The study demonstrates the possibility of using different waveguide models in real conditions.
